Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1945. The founder of the institute and the first rector was academician, People's Artist of the USSR, professor Ara Sargsian. Then he was succeeded by associate-professor Martin Charian, doctor-professor of philological science Vahagn Mkrtchian and since 1995 professor Aram Isabekian has become the rector of this academy.

Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts has given more than two thousand graduates. The majority of the members of professional Artist's Union are graduates of Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts and most of them have found recognition all over the world. Today, out of 70 lecturers two are academicians, six are doctor-professors. The tuition is carried out on a high level as all necessary conditions are provided. The indivisible part of the history of the academy are the exhibitions continually organized both in Armenia, out of it and elsewhere, which as a principle produce great interest.

Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts co-operates with the Art Academies of Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and organizes tuition practice abroad too.
