21 February 2000. IN MEMORY OF THE MARTYRED SONS OF ARMENIA

On the 27th of October, 1999 in the National Assembly of Armenia politicians were killed as the result of an act of terrorism. They were the Speaker of the Parliament Karen Demirchyan, Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan, the deputy speakers of the Parliament Yuri Bakhshyan and Ruben Miroyan. The other victims were the Minister of Emergency situations and former Prime Minister of Karabakh Leonard Petrossyan as well as members of Parliament Armenak Armenakyan, Mikael Kotanyan and Henrik Abrahamyan.

23 May 2000. FLORA AND FAUNA OF ARMENIA (VI issue). Fishes

Salmo Ischchan gegarkuni is endemic to Lake Sevan. It is a medium sized fish with silver scales, big black, sometimes orange or light pink spots. Ischchan has 4 biotypes: S.i. ischchan, S.i. gegarkuni, S.i. anilewski, S.i. aestivalis. The gegarkuni has a sharp chin and fusiform body. By length reaches 40cm, weight 400-600gram.
Barbus goktschaicus is endemic to Lake Sevan. The fish has a fusiform body with black spots. The length varies between 8 to 30cm, weight is up to 500gram. There are two pairs of barbels around the mouth, the dorsal flipper has a stiff ray. It is hard to catch. These rare endangered species are included in the Red Book of Armenia.

The fairy tale is one of the principal folklore genres. It is an oral narrative involving magic, adventure, routine, history heroism and animals. Garegin Srvandztyan and others played a significant role in collecting and publishing Armenian folk tales.
The Children's Gallery of Armenia was founded in 1970.
It houses artwork by children from 110 countries of the world.

The Armenian Apostolic Church is one of ancient Christian churches. It is called Apostolic since according to history it was founded in the first century A.D. owing to preaching of apostles Thaddeus and Bartholomew. During 293-301 the Christianity was spread in the kingdom of Great Hayk through the efforts of king Trdat and Gregory the Illuminator. In 301 Christianity was officially proclaimed a state religion of Armenia.

2000. MINERALS OF ARMENIA (II issue)

Quartz is widely available in nature. Its crystals have the form of an extended prism. The colour is diverse: colourless, white and gray.
Quartz sands are important in manufacture of glass and ceramics.
Transparent and coloured crystals are used in jewellery.
Molybdenite is a mineral of the sulfid class.
It forms prismatic and barrel-shaped crystals. The colour is light-blue-grey, with a metallic shine. Molybdenite is the source ore for molybdenium.
The deposits are in Kajaran, Agarak, Dastakert and Hankavan regions of the Republic of Armenia.

2000. 900th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF NERSES SHNORHALI

Nerses Shnorhali (1100-1173) is an Armenian poet, historian, musician-composer, statesman. Since 1166 was ordained Armenian Catholicos. Nerses Shnorhali has left a rich literary heritage: prose and poem (sharakan, hymns, riddles). He was the brightest representative of the Armenian music of the Cilician school.
He composed spiritual and lay songs.

2000. NATIONAL ARMENIAN INSTRUMENTS

Dhol is a membrane drum-shaped percussion instrument. Made from walnut, willow or pine wood. A tone results from the percussion of two wood drumsticks (thick and thin) or fingers and palms. Duduk is a traditional Armenian wind instrument. Consists of a pipe, made from apricot-tree, with two-reeded cane mouthpiece stuck on the top of pipe. The pipe has eight holes, and one - on the reverse side.
