The Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute after M. Nalbandian was founded in 1934.
There are 6 departments at the Institute:
The Institute builds specialists in 20 professions: mathematics, physics, technology, Armenian language and literature, history, journalism, biology, chemistry, geography, Russian language and literature, English, French, English and Russian, pedagogics, pedagogics and psychology, pre-school pedagogics and methodology, painting, military training, physical education and sport.
There are several specialisations established at the Institute. Part of the students acquire supplementary knowledge on the basis of mathematics
in practical Economics and Information Science. After having graduated from the Institute they get a
qualification of a teacher of Practical Economics and Information Science.
The specialisation of Practical Economics has already been established in the department of Geography and social works in the department
of Elementary Psychology and Pedagogics.
The staff of the Institute is 207, 78 have scientific degrees. There are 8 doctors at the Institute.
The Institute has a post-graduate department. More attention is paid to the scientific researches.
A conference for the staff of the Institute is organised once every 2 years.
In 1994 "The collection of scientific works" was published in 3 volumes and in 1996--in 2 volumes. They include articles of urgent problems on Mathematics, Physics, History, etc.
The Institute has acquired certain relations in International co-operation.
The chair of the French language participates in INTAS project and the chair of Mathematics in Eurasia foundation. The name of the project is "The Extend of the Teachers' Training Department in Practical Economics."
The students' scientific organisation carries out serious work at the institute.
"News of Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute" is issued twice a month at the Institute. The cultural and sport sections carry out serious work at the Institute. The Institute has a library and a reading-hall with all conveniences, lecture halls, laboratories, studies, 2 gymnasiums with up-to-date conveniences.
The Institute has a well-furnished hall for conferences and cultural activities.
