LAZY HOORY Armenian version

Once upon a lime there lived a woman. That woman had a daughter, whose name was Hoory. She was an idle, indolent girl. All day long she sat doing nothing.

Why should I work, it's dirty,
The cotton is so dusty,
I shall enjoy chewing gum,
I'll sit outdoors and have fun.
I shall watch people go by,
I shall eat and I shall drink,
I'll go to bed when stars blink.

The neighbours called her Idle Hoory. As for the mother she went about praising her daughter
"She combs bales of cotton,
she cuts and sews,
she kneads and bakes,
in a word an admirable girl, with gold fingers."

A young merchant heard all these praises and told himself,
"That's just the girl I should marry."

He went to the girls house and asked for her hand, married her and took her to his house.
After a while lie brought home bales of cotton and told his wife to comb and spin it till he was back from his business trip. He added he would take it to far off countries, sell it and get rich.
After the husband had left, Idle Hoory went about doing nothing except chewing gum. One day when walking along the river bank she heard frogs croaking
"crack, crack..."
"You girls, crack," called Idle Hoory, "if I bring you the cotton, will you comb and spin it for me?"
"Carry, canny, Crockery..."
Idle Hoory was besides herself with joy. She brought the cotton and dropped it into the river.
"Take it, comb, and spin it. I'll come back in a few days then we shall take the thread to market."
She went home and came back in a few days. The frogs were croaking
"Crack, crack..."
"Girls, crack, where is the thread?"
The frogs continued to croak.
Hoory looked about and noticed green seaweed's spread over the stones.
"Why! See what they have done!" They have combed the cotton, spun it and woven it into a rug. She raised one hand to her forehead and began to cry out
"All right, if you have woven rugs give me the money for my cotton." She called and called then stepped into the river. Suddenly her foot struck something hard. She took it out and saw it was a nugget of gold. She thanked crack, took the gold and went home. Her husband returned from his journey, saw the large gold nugget on the shelf. He was amazed and asked
"Woman, where did this gold nugget come from?" The wife told him that she had sold the cotton to crack and that was the money they paid.
The husband was delighted, he was so happy that he invited his mother-in-law to his house, gave her presents, praised her, thanked her for they sat down to a large feast.
The mother-in-law was a shrewd woman. She guessed what had happened. She was afraid her son-in-law would give her daughter more work and the secret would be revealed. While they were feasting a beetle flew into the room and went about droning. The woman stood up and greeted the beetle saying
"Welcome, welcome, dear Auntie, why did you work so hard to he tills?"
The son-in-law heard all in amazement
"Mother, what's wrung with you? What do you mean? How can it be your aunt'
The mother-in-law replied
"Son, I can" t keep secrets from you. You're my son. Yes, indeed, this beetle is my aunt. She used to work all day long. She worked harder and harder meanwhile got smaller and smaller, till she turned into a beetle. Our clan is like that. They are extremely hard working people. But by and by they get smaller and smaller and turn into beetles."
When the son-in-law heard this, he was so scared that he forbade his wife to do any work, lest she should become a beetle like her aunt.
